Civil Legal Division Internship
Cameron County Civil Legal Division
June 2025 - August 2025
During this internship, I was given the unique opportunity to meet and collaborate with Cameron County Civil Legal Division attorneys and staff, elected and appointed County officials, including the County Judge and County Clerk, to learn about the structure and operations of county government and the various roles of the Legal Division. Topics of discussion and instruction included the constitutional and statutory underpinnings of county government and operations, Civil Legal procedure, civil and employment rights, and litigations, with firsthand analysis and discussion of actual cases.

As a paralegal, I was granted access to state correctional facilities in Cameron County and federal correctional facilities in Falfurrias, Texas. I am familiar with secretarial duties and networking in Texas District, County, and Justice of the Peace Courts. I am most familiar with the 484th District Court, where I would interact with clients, families, Assistant District Attorneys, defense attorneys, probation officers, court staff, and detention staff. I am fluent in Texas eFile, Cameron County Public Portal, PACER, TXDOCS, TechShare Defense, LEXISNEXIS, and all Microsoft and Google softwares such as Word/Google Docs and PowerPoint/Google Slides. During this time, I became a notary public and certified process server in Texas by the Judicial Branch Certification Commission.

I gained a valuable work ethic and experience as a waitress for many years. I became experienced with handling money in a register, practicing exemplary customer service, serving food, bussing tables, and working with a team on a schedule. I am experienced with working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changes. With these jobs, I became comfortable with multitasking efficiently. During this time, I became Texas Food Handler Certified.

During my time as a Student Aid at Aiken Elementary, I gained personal experience with early childhood learners, practicing state-issued curriculum, monitoring during during in-class assessments, creating progress checks, and one-on-one evaluations with experienced educators on a weekly basis. During this time, I became Student Aid I Certified.
